Lexie Keller, a graduate student-athlete at Colorado State and a two-time NCAA All-American, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss returning to New Mexico, for both the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-25, as well as the Division 1 Indoor Championships on March 10-11 at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Keller, a 2018 graduate of La Cueva High in New Mexico, explains how meaningful it is to compete in her home state and how significant it will be to have the opportunity to contend for a Division 1 title in the pentathlon in her last indoor final in Albuquerque. She reflects on her breakthrough performance at last year's Division 1 indoor final at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama, taking third with 4,321 points for the No. 2 mark in conference history, trailing only the 4,365 points achieved in 2009 by Amy Menlove of Brigham Young at the Division indoor championship meet at Texas A&M. Keller also ranks No. 2 all-time in the conference in the heptathlon with 5,834 points from last year's Mountain West Outdoor Championships at Buchanan High's Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif., trailing only the 5,836 points accumulated by San Diego State's Allison Reaser at the 2014 NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Keller revisits producing a 4,137-point effort in December at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and focusing the rest of the regular season on individual events in an effort to improve each aspect of her pentathlon for the postseason. She examines the potential for Colorado State to capture another women's indoor team title at the conference final and the motivation present for the Rams after being edged for the outdoor crown by San Diego State. Keller, who was sixth in the Division 1 heptathlon final in June, also looks forward to challenging the 6,000-point barrier during the spring season and securing an opportunity to represent the United States at the Thorpe Cup in Germany during the summer against Nevada-Reno assistant coach and former Wolfpack All-American Nicola Ader.
