Brooke Wilson, a Wake Forest-bound senior at Valor Christian, won the Class 5A girls individual title at the Colorado High School Activities Association state cross country championship meet at Norris Penrose Events Center in Colorado Springs. Wilson covered the 5-kilometer layout in 16:59.17, setting the all-time girls state championship record at Norris Penrose, eclipsing the 2016 standard of 17:07.8 achieved in the Class 5A final by Brie Oakley of Grandview. Wilson, who placed second last year in 17:47.9, became the first female state individual champion in program history and the only four-time all-state competitor at Valor Christian, placing third in 2019, seventh in 2020 and runner-up last season. Wilson also helped Valor Christian take third overall with 133 points, edging Cherry Creek on a sixth-runner tiebreaker.
